Welcome to our website.
In recent years the school has been extensively upgraded to meet the needs of its pupils enabling the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum. Specialist facilities include the following: • purpose built gymnasium and sports hall Lindisfarne has an on going commitment to teacher training, providing placements for trainees from local universities. The benefits of involvement in teacher training are firstly that the school has a direct input into the training of future teachers, many of whom stay within our area. Secondly, our teaching staff develop professionally from the work that they do with trainees and the children benefit from additional staff in school. There is a lot of work involved but it’s well worth the effort. At Lindisfarne we expect a great deal of our pupils, respect them as individuals and are committed to providing the opportunities, guidance and teaching to enable each child to achieve his / her potential. It is important that children learn to think for themselves, care for others and develop the confidence needed to meet the challenges of adult life. The Governors and staff believe that education is a partnership involving the child, the teacher and the parent. It is vitally important that a child feels that everyone is working together for his / her benefit. In April 2009 Lindisfarne became part of the Aln Community Schools’ Federation, with The Dukes Middle School, the Duchess’s High School and Alnwick South First School. We aim to work together to share good practice to improve outcomes for all our pupils and work towards a seamless learning journey from age 3 to 19. We also collaborate closely with all schools in the extended Partnership. From September 2008, Lindisfarne was awarded Specialist School status as a Technology College. Working together with The Duchess’s High School, The Duke’s Middle School, Thomas Percy Middle School, Seahouses Middle School and Glendale Middle School, we are committed to cooperating with local schools and businesses to provide the best learning experiences for our pupils. Since 2003 Lindisfarne has held a prestigious national award from Sport England. Sportsmark is a national accreditation programme which sets a range of challenging targets. Particular areas of focus include the provision of a well balanced physical education programme and an out of school hours programme that offers pupils access to a range of opportunities and sporting links with the community. The Sportsmark Award, which is reviewed annually, acknowledges the high level of provision we are achieving. Since 2005 we have held the Basic Skills Quality Mark by the National development agency for basic skills in England and Wales (renewed in 2008). To achieve this a school has to meet the 10 elements of a framework to support the continious improvement of the basic skills of all pupils in the school. In September 2008 Lindisfarne was awarded a Creative Change School three-year grant from Creative Partnerships to help us with our work to innovate the curriculum to ensure that it is engaging for pupils and enables them to develop the skills they will need to be successful life-long learners. We have achieved Healthy Schools Status through our focus on promoting Health and Well being within our community and in 2009 we earned the Artsmark Gold award from the Arts Council that recognises schools with a high level of provision in the arts. We hope that you, as parents will feel yourselves to be a valued part of your child’s education and will involve yourselves, as far as you can, in some of the many aspects of school life.
