Creative ability is something which all children have, it is not a special talent reserved for a gifted minority. Children have the ability to produce something that for them is new, superior or unique, when compared with previous efforts.
Our aim in Art is to develop these abilities and to continue the development of a lively interest in all visual matters by encouraging the children to look, see and respond to the world about them. To enable this learning process to occur we expose them to a wide variety of expressive activities, giving them opportunities to experience a wide range of materials which encourages inventiveness and originality.
Children are encouraged to use the skills they achieve in Art to enrich and reinforce learning in other areas of the School Curriculum. By gaining Gold Artsmark, Lindisfarne has shown its commitment to the wider development of pupils and teachers to raising the profile of the arts in the school and the local community.
A major aim is to contribute to the aesthetic development of the whole school. Childrens’ work is displayed and celebrated within their classrooms and throughout the school at large. Art is taught within the Link Studies curriculum in Years 6 and 7.
We take an active part in many locally organised Arts events, successfully exhibiting childrens’ work in various galleries and venues within our local community. Visits to art galleries, exhibitions and working with artists and craftspeople are also part of our Art Curriculum.
