Lindisfarne has been awarded Sportsmark, a prestigious national award by Sport England. Sportsmark is a national accreditation programme which sets a range of challenging targets. Particular areas of focus include the provision of a well balanced physical education programme and an out of school hours programme that offers pupils access to a range of opportunities and sporting links with the community. The Sportsmark Award acknowledges the high level of provision we are achieving. In KS2 all pupils take part in the following activities: Adventurous Activities (including cross country), Athletics, Dance Gymnastics, Swimming and Games. At KS3 Adventurous Activities, Athletics, Gym, Games and Health and Related Fitness are all taught. In addition the following sports are played as extra curricular activities: Hockey; Netball; Rounders; Rugby (including Tag Rugby); Cricket (including Kwik Cricket); Golf; Table Tennis. An Annual Swimming Gala is held and Athletics, and Cross-Country Running are practised and extended into area competitions. We hold an annual sports day and aim to encourage all students to take part in a track or field event. Providing extra curricular activities is vitally important as it improves and develops a pupils ability to work co-operatively with others. We provide the opportunity for pupils to attend a variety of tournaments and compete with success at district and regional levels. The department benefits from the use of our well equipped sports hall and gymnasium. Youth and community groups also use our facilities for a variety of activities. |
