Rationale
At Lindisfarne Middle School the staff and Govenors believe
homework is an important part of education because it enhances learning. It
also supports the ethos of life long learning by developing the opportunities for
learning outside the classroom.
We believe homework helps to:
• develop concentration out of the formal school environment which is
important for later schooling;
• inform parents about work carried out in class;
• reinforce lessons learnt at school and highlight areas which need more
work;
• give children independence and establish a routine for future years.

What is Homework?
At Alnwick Lindisfarne Middle School we define homework widely to mean
any task or activity which pupils are asked to do outside the lesson time,
either on their own or with parents or carers. Homework should take place in a
quiet, calm environment, such as the home, school library or town library.
Where a need is identified, alternative provision may be available within the
school.
We believe that homework is an integral part of the learning experience
because it:
• prepares pupils for new areas of learning;
• provides a stimulus for future lessons;
• develops skills already taught;
• encourages the development of good study habits;
• reinforces the learning objectives.
