Head's Welcome

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,
Lindisfarne Middle School is an LEA maintained school for pupils aged from 9-13. We are situated in the ancient, historic town of Alnwick in beautiful Northumberland. The school itself is situated in a quiet residential area, yet the town is only ten minutes away on foot. As such, the town and its attractions are available to us.

As a middle school we are able to offer facilities that are often not available in other schools:

  • A purpose-built gymnasium
  • A wonderfully large & well-equipped Sports Hall
  • 2 well-equipped Science labs
  • Well-resourced technology workshops- a textiles area, food technology room and a resistant materials workshop (We are a Specialist Technology School.)
  • 3 networked computing suites
  • Interactive whiteboards in all teaching rooms
  • A well-equipped library
  • A garden with a pond available for curriculum use
  • Extensive playing fields
  • Dedicated Year 5 cloakroom and yard
  • Music Department
  • Art Room

We are part of the Aln Federation along with Duke’s Middle School and Duchess’s Community High School. We aim to work closely together to share good practice in order to improve outcomes for all of our pupils and to provide a seamless learning journey from ages 9-19.We enjoy good relations with all of the schools in our local Partnership.

Our Governors are proactive and are often in school. They are charged with the task of keeping us on the right track and we are building strong relationships.

We expect a great deal of our pupils here at Lindisfarne.  Academic  achievement is rewarded and good progress expected. We aim to give our pupils, from the most confident to the least, the motivation to achieve their full potential in all lessons. However, although we aim for excellence in Reading, Writing and Maths, we also value the other qualities which make our children decent citizens. We teach our children to respect each other and their environment and to show thought and consideration for others around them. It is important that pupils think for themselves and develop the confidence needed to meet the challenges of adult life. Our annual residential trips are very popular, and valuable learning continues away from school.

We are dedicated to working alongside parents so that every child is encouraged to do their best. The Governors and staff understand the importance of us working together for the child- it is a partnership and you, the parents, should be involved. We encourage parents to communicate with us and to join us in school as often as possible at events such as our half termly celebration assemblies, the Arts festival, coffee mornings, Sports Day, sponsored walks etc

We also welcome your views which we seek regularly, and we organise and host events and activities through which we can all get together (as well as perhaps raise money for a range of charities or for our school fund).

We have many pupils who play musical instruments. We have an orchestra and a ceilidh band as well as a choir, and all of our pupils learn to play at least one instrument. We are also a very successful sporting school, winning many events & trophies. Many of our pupils go onto play at County, regional, and even national levels in their respective sports.

Visiting our website is no substitute for direct contact so please make contact by telephone or email or even better- do visit. You will be made most welcome.

Kind regards,

Mrs Dawn Morton
(Executive Head Teacher).
